How is human life altered by Technology?
I first wanted to define what I think human nature is and what technology is to me. Human Nature, according to Locke, we are born with a blank slate and through perception and sensation we learn different things . I feel as though human nature is what we learn from experience. If we never experienced anything we would not be with human nature. This makes me think of a movie I watched in Psychology 0100 freshman year. A girl was caged up until she was a teenager. She never walked or was social with anyone but maybe her parents. When they found her she couldn’t walk right and she couldn’t talk. They tried to use flash cards and different techniques to have her be a normal person but it was a lot of work. This is what I feel is human nature – having perception and sensation of the world around us.
Technology on the other hand is, as we said in class, the study of technique. I found a definition online that says “A specific definition for the word "technology" is difficult to determine, because "technology" can refer to material objects of use to humanity, such as machines, hardware or utensils, but can also encompass broader themes, including systems, methods of organization, and techniques(What is technology? 1)”. Lyotard tells us that “technology wasn’t invented by us humans. Rather the other way around. As anthropologists and biologists admit, even the simplest life forms, infusoria are already technical devices. Any material system is technological if it filters information useful to its survival, if it memorizes and processes that information and makes inferences… (Lyotard 12)”. I feel as though technology is what Lyotard is saying – human nature is technology as a way of organizing our perceptions and sensations.
Technology is a part of human nature is a broad sense, but I feel that technology could surpass human nature. Joy warns us that our own voluntary actions can be danger to us (Joy 11). Could it just be our human nature of learning that is the danger? Learning is how we become who we are and how we are all different. Our knowledge wants to know more about our past and future. I think that knowledge in turn creates human nature. I also think that we use technology to gain knowledge. If we had a graph of human nature and technology, I think that it would be at an exponential rate until one day the technology passes our human nature. Closer and closer one day that technology could surpass human nature.

Human Vs Technology
Technology is defined as the discourse surrounding techniques. However, the dictionary defines technology as “a technological process, invention, method, or the like.” The term invention, applies to the way most people think of technology and the ways in which it has been interacting with human nature throughout history. In order to form a relationship between technology and human nature, we first need to know what exactly human nature is. It is defined in the dictionary as “the psychological and social qualities that characterize humankind.” Since technology is considered to be new inventions, and human nature is considered to be social characteristics, we can determine the relationship between the two. Does one affect the other? It would seem that human nature is affected by technology, because new inventions tend to have an impact on society and people’s lives, but it also seems that technology is affected by human nature, because without society’s changing attributes, there would be no need for new inventions. Therefore, it is safe to say that the relationship between technology and human nature is a never-ending cycle of each being influenced by the other.
Human nature can determine what types of new technologies are created. For example, when people from other towns or areas needed to relay messages to one another, such as in the military or government, it was slow and inconvenient to deliver these messages on foot. They needed a faster way to communicate, so the Pony Express was invented. Horses are not only quicker than people, but they can carry heavier loads, making it possible to relay many messages at a time. Eventually, with budding technology, people found an even more convenient way to communicate. The telephone had been invented and it was possible for anyone to communicate directly with whomever they pleased, and waiting for a response was no longer an issue. Many decades afterward, when people began to travel more often and jobs sometimes required long distance business trips, the cell phone had been invented to accommodate everyone regardless of where they were. Also, another need for communication in the military between countries, before the invention of the cell phone, the internet was invented. It was used for underground operations and secret information, and made communication from country to country a lot less complicated. Because of its success with the military, the internet was released to the international public for private use and quickly became very popular, especially with the younger generations. After a short while, social networking sites were invented for people to keep in touch with friends and family and to meet new people from various cities all around the world. These technologies were greatly affected by society’s needs.

Human needs in technology
High technology will revolutionize the workplace and work, but if left to proliferate unattended, as it has in the past, human needs will be frustrated rather than fulfilled, our profession helps shape the man-machine interface in order to obtain the human performance required by a system. In doing so we attempt to meet human needs for safety, comfort and job satisfaction. And while we do this well, we ignore high-order human needs. If the full spectrum of human needs is to be met, we must broaden our goals and modify our approaches.

Drawbacks of technology.
Technology is constantly changing the way we communicate. Some of these changes have been positive in nature. However, some of the changes have negatively impacted our ability to effectively send and receive messages. With globalization forcing us to keep up with the times or get left behind, it's critical that we understand these potential communication roadblocks as we incorporate new technology into our daily lives. When communicating face to face, nonverbal behaviors provide context clues for the words we use. Unfortunately, the Wall Street Journal found that technologies like email, texting and instant messaging remove these important context clues, and can lead to misunderstandings. Sarcasm and jokes without nonverbal context cues can cause frustration. Though smiley faces with different expressions called "emoticons" are sometimes used to substitute traditional nonverbal cues, they fall far short of what face-to-face communication can provide. With the growth and expansion of technology, a new language has been born, including a variety of abbreviations, such as, "lol," "ttyl" and "afk." While some of these terms have become very commonly used in day-to-day exchanges, some, such as "lmirl," or, "let's meet in real life," are almost exclusively used in internet interaction. If one is not familiar with this form of slang, technology can limit effective communication more than help it. While many would consider the amplified speed in communication via technology a plus, it also presents drawbacks. The speed at which an email, text or instant message can be sent can lead to emotional responses you don't necessarily mean, inflaming the conflict at hand. However, beyond limitations involving conflict, the speed at which we communicate with new technologies can hurt our ability to, "think before we speak," as the saying goes. It is sometimes too tempting to shoot back an email as quickly as possible. In our haste, though, we may find ourselves making a slew of errors, which can lead to confusion over the intended message and damage your professional credibility. As more students acquire cell phones, iPods, and gaming systems, technology's impact on effective communication is becoming more pronounced. As the District Chronicles reports, teachers attempting to convey messages about lessons and textbooks find students are texting, playing, or listening to music. Not only does this mitigate the teacher's ability to communicate lessons, but it hurts future communicative interaction between the teacher and student because of the lack of respect it conveys.

Risks of technology.
People make mistakes, learn from them, and move on to the next challenge — usually without dire consequences. But in business, particularly in information technology, mistakes can be costly. From information theft to lost worker productivity to missed sales opportunities, technology errors can put your business at risk.

Solution to Challanges of technology
These are some of the challenges with which organizations grapple all the time. But there are ways to manage them successfully.
- If you could get better insight about your customer needs from all the data that you have, maybe you can win more customers and increase revenues.
- If you are gathering the right kind of information, maybe you can track your performance closer and deal effectively with the complexity of managing your business in different countries.
- If you could open your IT infrastructure securely to employees, customers and business partners, maybe they could conduct business more effectively.
- If you had more confidence in the integrity of the information captured and reported in your business processes, maybe your organization could reduce spending precious resources on compliance-related issues and focus instead on beating the competition.
- If you could better secure your company’s IT infrastructure you could increase the protection of your customers’ information assets.
Advantages of technolgy
In a world permeated by technology, an individual can function more effectively if he or she is familiar with and has a basic understanding of technology.A person can be technologically literate knows how to basically handle a computer.Technology is also closely associated with innovation, the transformation of ideas into new and useful products or processes. Innovation requires not only creative people and organizations, but also the availability of technology and science and engineering talent. Technology and innovation are synergistic. The development of gene-sequencing machines, for example, has made the decoding of the human genome possible, and that knowledge is fueling a revolution in diagnostic, therapeutic, and other biomedical innovations.
A higher level of technological literacy in the population would have a number of benefits, for individuals and for the society as a whole.

Use of technology
Technology is mostly used in the field of the design of computer chips, for instance, depends on a detailed understanding of the electrical properties of silicon and other materials. The design of a drug to fight a specific disease is made possible by knowledge of how proteins and other biological molecules are structured and how they interact.
Technology is the basis for a good part of scientific research. The climate models meteorologists use to study global warming require supercomputers to run the simulations. And like most of us, scientists in all fields depend on the telephone, the Internet, and jet travel.
It is difficult, if not impossible, to separate the achievements of technology from those of science. When the Apollo 11 spacecraft put Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon, many people called it a victory of science. When a new type of material, such as lightweight, emerges on the market, newspapers often report it as a scientific advance. Genetic engineering of crops to resist insects is also usually attributed wholly to science. And although science is integral to all of these advances, they are also examples of technology, the application of unique skills, knowledge, and techniques, which is quite different from science.

Needs of technology
Technology was mainly the province of craftsmen who passed their know-how down from generation to generation, gradually improving designs, and adding new techniques and materials. By the beginning of the twentieth century, technology had become a large-scale enterprise that depended on large stores of knowledge and know-how, too much for any one person to master. Large organizations were now required for the development, manufacture, and operation of new technologies. Complex networks of interdependent technologies were developed, such as the suite of technologies for the automobile. These include gas and oil refineries, filling stations and repair shops, tire manufacturers, automobile assembly plants, the highway system, and many more. The government began to play a larger role in shaping technology through technological policies and regulations.
Technology evolved to reflect these changes. In the nineteenth century, technology referred simply to the practical arts used to create physical products, everything from wagon wheels and cotton cloth to telephones and steam engines. In the twentieth century, the meaning of the word was expanded to include everything involved in satisfying human material needs and wants, from factories and the organizations that operate them to scientific knowledge, engineering know-how, and technological products themselves.

Introduction to technology
Technology in the 21st century has become fundamental need of people. Formally, technology is the process by which humans modify nature to meet their needs and wants. Most people, however, think of technology in terms of its artifacts: computers and software, aircraft, pesticides, water-treatment plants, birth-control pills, and microwave ovens, to name a few. But technology is more than these tangible products.
Technology includes all of the infrastructure necessary for the design, manufacture, operation, and repair of technological artifacts, from corporate headquarters and engineering schools to manufacturing plants and maintenance facilities. The knowledge and processes used to create and to operate technological artifacts -- engineering know-how, manufacturing expertise, and various technical skills -- are equally important part of technology.
Technology is a product of engineering and science, the study of the natural world. Science has two parts.
A body of knowledge that has been accumulated over time and process-scientific inquiry-that generates knowledge about the natural world. Engineering, too, consists of a body of knowledge-in this case knowledge of the design and creation of human-made products-and a process for solving problems. Science aims to understand the "why" and "how" of nature, engineering seeks to shape the natural world to meet human needs and wants. Engineering, therefore, could be called "design under constraint," with science-the laws of nature-being one of a number of limiting factors engineers must take into account. Other constraints include cost, reliability, safety, environmental impact, ease of use, available human and material resources, government regulations, laws, and even politics. In short, technology necessarily involves science and engineering.
